Making a Difference in Children’s Lives

This summer we focused our outreach efforts on helping children by sponsoring several opportunities for our congregation to donate time and resources to some great organizations.  In June, all ages of men, women, and youth gathered to build and paint two playhouses through Habitat for Humanity (sandiegohabitat.org).  The playhouses were donated to a military family with young children and to Solutions for Change (solutionsforchange.org) for their children living in transitional housing.

Our Vacation Bible School program sponsored a project to collect items for care packages, which were then donated to Presbyterian Urban Ministries (pumsd.org) for their homeless clients.

And our faith family stepped up to a challenge to give more backpacks and school supplies than last year's back to school drive. We collected and distributed everything donated to local agencies for children in Poway, Escondido, and Vista school districts. School supplies worth thousands of dollars and 250 backpacks were given to Vista based Solutions for Change, Salvation Army in Escondido (escondido.salvationarmy.org), and Friends & Family Community Connections (ffccsd.org) for students in Poway Unified.

The non-profit agencies listed in this article are supported or endorsed by the RB Community Missions Committee, our Deacons, or our Carpenters Fellowship service group (men and women who formed specifically to do work in the name of Jesus). They are all wonderful organizations, click on the links or join us for our next service project.
